Automotive Security

In days past, it was not unusual to have a relative or a friend whose car key could open and start your car, or another acquaintances car. Well those days are all but a memory.

Technology in automotive security is growing as fast as technology in the computer or medical fields. With the use of transponder keys, these are keys that have a chip in the head of the key, that communicates with another chip in your car, if they don't talk nice, the car won't start. A simplified explanation of how a transponder works is that the key sends a radio signal to the car, if the responding signal from the car is correct, it will start, if not it locks down. There are many variations of transponder technology, each with it's own set of tools and information.

Other technologies, including biometrics (fingerprints) are also making their way into the marketplace, if you bought a new Corvette® today you have the option of a car without an ignition key, your fingerprint opens the door lock and powers on a switch that will start the car, all without a key.
